Performances by Liesje van den Berk & Jolijn de Wolf, Ronald Bal,
Ieke Trinks, Jolanda Jansen, Sabine Oosterlynck, Günther J Schaefer. Common ground of the performances will be a treasure map.
Sometimes we find ourselves in the rare occasion of discovering or receiving a treasure. A treasure can provide us great and valuable moments. But it also includes a risk. Holding a treasure makes us vulnerable. What if we lose it? What if someone takes it away? Maybe it is better to share.
Jolijn de Wolf and Liesje van den Berk found each other in their investigation of the connection between the self, the others and the universe. although they use different media for their research, De Wolf in performative videos and Van Den Berk in drawings and performances, they share a common atmosphere in their work. it contains fragility, tangibility, vulnerability and intensity. now they join forces together in the performance 'no heart feelings' in which they share a heart made of honey.
in her carefully constructed and confrontational performances, Jolanda Jansen submits her body to various transformations, or rather deformations, to engage with the possibility of self-reinvention and release from cultural determinations. her work often stages the passage from a sexualized female body to an animal-like corporeality as a way of challenging constraining definitions of self and femininity. it's not only her own controlled body that the artist hopes to disorganize and transform; her performances also intend to provoke viewers out of their routine bodily behaviors. to do so, she often uses the camera as a tool to invade the viewer’s personal space and engage with issues of voyeurism and gender power relations.
Ronald Bal’s work mainly revolves around making the space gap, which plays a role in all forms of interaction, visible. by doing performances in public and personal spaces he tries to point out this gap in interaction. he offers his viewer, or better yet, passer-by, a notion of his or her environment and the interaction, which takes place there.
Günther J. Schaefer is engaged in accessible installations of lights in a public area. the artistry 'shelter' leads the visitor into a scenery of illuminated houses, which seem to levitate. the luminous creatures with a height of four meters are fragile and spirited. they wake up with the lightfall...
Sabine Oosterlynck (B) makes conceptual work, she examines how existing material can be placed in a new context according to a certain theme. the ' sounds like patty ' series with videos, performances and installations, is a project that examines the volatile and manipulative of mass media.
The performance work of Ieke Trinks is often created using instructions, observations, and live actions made with every day objects and materials (such as cups, chairs, paper, shoes, doors, wood, shirts, nails, bananas, plastic bags), combined and deconstructed, often resulting in absurd situations that play with interpretations and expectations in response to a particular written text.
