Emilio Novani graduated just last year from the AKI / ArtEZacademy. With his first solo exhibition in AkkuH [Aktuele Kunst Hengelo], he won AanZet! 2010. The prize consists of a sum of money and a solo exhibition in outLINE]
From the jury report:
"In one way or another, the images, which are seemingly insignificant, are actually all recognizable and meaningful. They evoke many questions and yet there are countless analogies with our everyday lives. Emilio Novani has chosen to place his earlier work in a set of new photographs. That might seem like an admission of weakness, but in his case it bears witness to an intelligent connection between that which has been and what he is looking for here and now.
We feel like voyeurs, as if we are watching images from the security camera of moments we really should not be witness to. And they aren’t even compromising situations, in fact they are the most discreet moments in our lives, the in-between moments. Because of the differences in size, color and grain, a hierarchy is created in the structure of the images that make up the story. The production by the artist is great and inescapable, and yet it is not restrictive. He is a slow grinder who seems to know precisely where he is.
