‘relational thingness’

‘Relational Thingness’ this is the title of Yvonne Dröge Wendel’s forthcoming exhibition in foundation outLINE. The fascination for things became the consistent factor in her career. Yvonne Dröge Wendel is concerned with the relationship between people, objects and context and is looking for challenging ways of relating to things. With an experimental approach she aims to capture what it is that objects actually do.

The project ‘Relational Thingness’ is part of a larger project called Object Research Lab. During the first working phase of this project in 2009 and 2010 Dröge Wendel invited scientists, designers and artists, to work on formulating the necessary questions and insights concerning [the future of] things. The objects now to be seen in outLINE, were brought into being during a discussion between Klaas Kuitenbrouwer, Willem van Weelden, Yvonne Dröge Wendel and Sher Doruff in November 2009. These objects have specific qualities and initiate a specific form of interactions. The objects ressemble to each other but each thing does and can do something else. Some objects come into movement by interaction of the visitor, while other objects move independently through space and interact their own relations with objects and people.

Yvonne Dröge Wendel [Karlsruhe, 1961] studied at the Rietveld and Rijksakademie. Her projects have been shown internationally in gallerys and museums. Furthermore she has realized different art commissions for public space. Controversial performances were for example: her marriage with the cabinet Wendel [Objects make our world,1992], the blessing of her beloved Renault16 in Rome, [La Benedizione della macchina, Prix de Rome 1994] and the black ball [Black Ball, v.h. the municipality 2000].

This project has been made possible by the friendly support of Fonds BKVB, Kvadrat B.V. Nederland, Lockfast Holland BV and stichting M4gastatelier.
